Dear Mrs.Boutilier: The focus on my capstone project will be to help teach the middle school students in SMSA the fundamentals of football. I am interested in this topic because as a football player I can see how not knowing the fundamentals of football can hurt the child or team by not possessing full knowledge. Learning the fundamentals at a young age helps the young athlete because they aren’t capable of showing how talented they are .Due to the fact that they have to take one out of the four years in high school sports to learn the fundamentals.
My essential question is: Why is it important to develop proper fundamentals of football at a young age? The link between my research question and my project is that it will be looking at how athlete are at risk their by not knowing the fundamentals of football. To help present my knowledge to the youth I will be holding a one day football camp showing them the fundamentals. I also will be expressing to them what a high school football coach would want .This will help the athlete in the long run because it will prepare them for what is expected from a high school athlete. Also in my camp the children would leave knowing the proper tackling form and rules. From this experience I am hoping to gain that children would be able to showcase their talent at a young age which will help them become better athletes.
Through out this capstone project I have Coach Graham Martin as a mentor. He agreed to help me through this project by giving me knowledge and experience. He has been certified football coach for 43 years. I predict that I will learn to run and hold my own football practices to help assist the youth.
Sincerely,
Wilfredo Alicea Jr
